A 26-year-old gym trainer and amateur bodybuilder allegedly died by suicide at his residence in north Bengaluru on Saturday evening after learning that the woman he was in a relationship with was engaged to marry someone else, reported Times of India.

The deceased, identified as Kiran, lived in Geleyara Balaga Layout in Mahalakshmi Layout. According to the ToI report, the incident came to light when family members found him unresponsive inside his room after he had locked the door from within. He was later discovered hanging.

Police said a handwritten note was recovered from the house in which Kiran allegedly mentioned his girlfriend and her mother as being responsible for his extreme step.

The note also reportedly contained the password to his mobile phone, which investigators are examining as part of the probe.

Family members told police that Kiran had been visibly distressed for nearly two weeks after the woman informed him about her engagement and showed him her wedding invitation and saree.

On the day of the incident, he had asked his mother for a sheet of paper and a pen, saying he needed them to write down financial details. When he did not respond to repeated calls from inside his room later in the evening, relatives forced the door open and found him hanging.

The family further alleged that Kiran had spent a significant portion of his earnings to help clear loans for the woman and had introduced her to them earlier, expressing his intention to marry her.

He had also participated in several local bodybuilding competitions.

The body has been shifted to a government mortuary for post-mortem examination. Based on a complaint filed by the family, the Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation.
