Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi on July 15, with waterlogging reported from a number of places, including Civil Lines. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a minimum temperature of 29°C, marking a 1.8°C increase from the seasonal average.

At 8:30 am, the relative humidity was reported at 76 percent. The previous day, the maximum temperature peaked at 37.1°C, exceeding the seasonal average by two degrees.

Heavy rain pounds Maharashtra

Four Maharashtra districts — Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri — have been placed under a red alert due to heavy rainfall.

In Mumbai and Palghar, a yellow alert has been issued, while Thane, Raigad and Pune are under an orange alert. The continuous downpour and thunderstorms have led to heavy waterlogging in suburban areas of Mumbai.

IMD red alert for Karnataka, Kerala and Konkan Goa

Isolated extremely heavy showers are anticipated over Konkan, Goa, the ghat regions of Madhya Maharashtra, South and Coastal Karnataka as well as Kerala.

"The monsoon is shifting downward from today. We are issuing a red alert for coastal Karnataka, Kerala, and Konkan Goa for the coming days. There may be more than 20 cm of rain there," IMD scientist Naresh Kumar told ANI.

Following heavy rain and an IMD red alert in several areas of the state, the Goa education department on July 14 announced a holiday for schools up to Class 12 on July 15.

A red alert was also issued for July 15 in Kerala for Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod and an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Due to intense rain and thunderstorms on July 15, schools and institutions in six districts of Kerala would remain closed.

The IMD has indicated that the monsoon will remain active over Peninsular and adjoining central India for the next four to five days. This forecast has raised concerns about possible flooding and waterlogging in these regions.

Officials are urging residents and authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions during this period of increased rainfall activity.
