A fresh controversy has broken out in Maharashtra after a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party made explosive remarks about a plane crash allegedly linked to Ajit Pawar, questioning whether it was truly accidental.
The comments were made by NCP MLC Amol Mitkari at a Shiv Jayanti event in Akola district. Addressing the gathering, Mitkari raised doubts about the circumstances of the aircraft incident and suggested the possibility of a larger plot.
“Was this just an accident, or was there a deeper conspiracy behind it?” he asked the audience.
Drawing a provocative comparison, Mitkari referred to the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991 by the Sri Lankan militant outfit Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.
“Just as the LTTE assassinated Rajiv Gandhi, was a similar conspiracy hatched in Ajit Pawar’s case?” Mitkari said. “Was Captain Sumit Kapoor flying the aircraft as a suicide bomber?”
He also questioned reports surrounding the death of the pilot. Referring to claims attributed to Captain Sumit Kapoor’s wife, Mitkari asked, “If his wife says he is alive, then who died in that accident?”
Continuing his remarks, he expressed surprise at what he described as a lack of public uproar. “When there is such a big mystery linked to Ajit Pawar, how is Maharashtra so calm?” he said.
Calling the episode the “unsolved mystery of Gojubavi’s Maalaran”, Mitkari argued that technical explanations alone would not answer the larger questions. “We are being told that black box data will be shared later. But the real question is, why have the CCTV footages not been made public?” he said.
He further sought clarity about other pilots associated with the aircraft, naming Captain Sahil Madan and Captain Yash. “What traffic were they stuck in? Where is their CCTV movement footage? Where are they now? This should be made public,” Mitkari said.
According to him, investigative agencies must go beyond technical findings and release all available visual material to ensure transparency.
Mitkari’s remarks have heightened political tensions in the state and sparked debate within political circles, including inside his own party. In an emotional note during the speech, he said, “Ajit Pawar could have emerged as the greatest Chief Minister representing Shiv ideology for Maharashtra.”
