The Election Commission on Tuesday has published the draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh, removing the names of 2.89 crore voters. The release has been postponed three times since the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls began across 12 states and Union Territories on October 27.
“On March 6, 2026, we will issue the final voter list under SIR. Voters should check their details by entering their EPIC number on the website. I urge voters to do so. If their name is not available, they should fill out Form 6," said CEO Navdeep Rinwa while addressing a press conference.
According to the CEO, out of 15.44 crore voters, the names of 12.55 crore voters (81.30 per cent) have been retained in the draft electoral roll after the SIR.
He said that names cannot be deleted from the SIR draft electoral roll without issuing prior notice to the concerned voters. Most of the deletions were reported from major urban centres, including Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, and Kanpur.
The Election Commission clarified that the draft voter list is not final. After all claims and objections are examined and resolved, the final voter list will be published on March 6, which will form the basis for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh.
The poll body urged voters to check their names without delay.
The commission said 12.56 crore (12,55,56,25) voters are now part of the voter list in Uttar Pradesh, down from 15.44 crore in October 2025, when the SIR process began.
Rinwa said that the EC will also invite those who object to the inclusion of the nearly 12.55 crore names in the draft electoral roll. These objections can be filed by filling out Form 7.
If the objection is to be found valid against the name in the draft list, it may be removed from the list.
Voters can check whether their names are on the draft list even on the phones using the ECINET app.
