A late-night collision near the Subhash Nagar Metro Station claimed the life of a 25-year-old food delivery agent in West Delhi, police said on Friday.

The victim, Hem Shakar, a resident of Raghubir Nagar, was on duty for quick commerce platform Zepto when the accident occurred. According to Delhi Police, the incident took place at around 3.26 am near the Subhash Nagar Metro red light on Najafgarh Road.

Investigators said a speeding Hyundai Verna allegedly struck Shakar’s electric scooty from behind. Eyewitnesses at the spot told police that the car rammed into the two wheeler, causing severe damage.

Shakar was immediately taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

"This incident happened around 2:30 AM. I was on duty at the pump when I heard a very loud noise and ran here. Those boys had been drinking, and the car's speed was around 150. He ran over the Zomato rider..." an eyewitness said.

"...At night, this black car hit him, and that guy has died. He used to work with me - we worked together at night..." a delivery executive said.

Police found both the damaged electric scooty and the Verna car at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car, identified as 27-year-old Mohit Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh who works as a contractor with the Municipal Corporation, was taken into custody. The vehicle involved in the accident has been seized.

A case has been registered at Tilak Nagar police station and further legal proceedings are in progress, officials said.
