Vehicular emission and dust are the main actors responsible for air pollution during winter and summer seasons in the Delhi NCR region, the Commission for Air Quality Management told the Supreme Court on January 21, a report by the Times of India said.
The pollution body, responsible for researching and resolving air quality issues in the national capital region, has also provided a list of short-term and long-terms measures to improve air quality, the report said.
The proposals also include plans to unclogging the traffic jams at MCD toll plazas, the paper said.
The top court bench, led by chief justice Surya Kanta along with justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, accepted the report and asked all the stakeholders to not raise objections to the recommendations. It also asked major stakeholders, including central government ministries and the state governments of Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana along with various civic bodies and metro corporation to present action plans within 4 weeks, the newspaper said.
The additional solicitor general Aishwarya Bhati said the measures were formulated after deliberations with top experts, including from IITs, academia, research bodies and NGOs, the report said.
The air pollution management body said the issue requires “whole-of-govt” approach with support from all the ministries, state governments, statutory authorities and various other agencies to tackle the issue in a coordinated manner.
