Tensions flared in the city on Wednesday after pieces of meat were found near the Shiva Lingam at the Jirra Hanuman Temple in Tappachabutra. Devotees, visibly shocked by the incident, quickly called up the police, who arrived at the scene to investigate.
Temple authorities reported that the priest initially found the meat and immediately informed committee members. As word of the incident spread, a crowd gathered outside the temple, including local BJP workers, who voiced concerns over the matter.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Chandra Mohan confirmed that an investigation had been launched. “We received information regarding the presence of meat near the Shiva Lingam. Upon arriving at the temple, we found it locked. Our initial suspicion is that an animal may have brought the meat inside. CCTV footage is being reviewed, and more details will be provided soon,” he stated.
BJP MLA Raja Singh condemned the incident, claiming such acts had become more frequent in Hyderabad. “Similar incidents have occurred before, and each time, the police claim that an animal, like a dog or cat, brought the meat. This explanation has become routine. We demand strong action,” he said.
The incident sparked protests in the communally sensitive Tappachabutra area, with locals and BJYM leaders alleging an attempt to desecrate the temple. The protests continued until the police assured that the case would be resolved promptly.
The Hyderabad police have formed special teams to investigate the origins of the meat found at the temple. Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Vikram Singh Mann visited the temple site, speaking with local officials and overseeing the investigation. He confirmed that local police and Task Force teams are reviewing CCTV footage to gather more clues on how the meat ended up inside the temple.
