“It’s great to be back in India,” said Emmanuel Macron, as he spoke about technology, regulation and the future of artificial intelligence, during his speech at the AI Summit 2026 on Thursday.
Referring to India’s digital ecosystem, Macron said, “Street vendor in Mumbai accepts payment on his phone instantly today, that is a civilisation story.”
Speaking about child safety online, he said, “We are embarking to ban social networks for children under 15 year old.”
He added, “No country is bound to serve as a market where foreign companies serve models and download digital data.”
On cooperation, he said, “India will join such an order to protect children and teenagers to ensure that young citizens are truly safe.”
Emphasising his position on regulation, Macron said, “Protecting our children is not regulation but civilisation.”
On artificial intelligence, he stated, “Smartest AI is not the most expensive, but built by best people for right purpose.”
