BJP workers allegedly vandalized an office of a Shiv Sena leader, Vijay Mane, in Nerul, Navi Mumbai, following which more than a dozen persons have been booked on Friday.
However, no arrest has been made so far in the case, PTI reported.
Civic poll results were declared during the day. The Shiv Sena and BJP fought separately in Navi Mumbai, with the latter comprehensively defeating the Eknath Shinde-led outfit.
The incident occurred at around 6.30 pm on Friday at the Shiv Sena campaign office located at Sagar Darshan, Sector 18, Nerul (West).
According to the complainant, Jeet Sanjay Mane, the office was being used for the campaign of Ashwini Vijay Mane, who contested the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections from Ward No. 23. As the victory procession for the winning BJP candidate, Rupali Kismat Bhagat, passed the Sena office, the atmosphere soured. The FIR states that BJP workers began chanting provocative slogans against the Shinde faction and used derogatory language directed at Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, according to a report by Mid-Day.
When questioned about the slogans, the mob allegedly turned violent. The attackers reportedly used steel rods from flags and hand rings to assault those present. Mane alleged that Ganesh Bhagat struck him on the head with a metal ring, while Kismat Bhagat assaulted him with a steel rod.
A driver, Rohit Pandey, was also thrashed when he tried to intervene. The mob didn’t stop at physical assault; they allegedly entered the office and smashed glass partitions, furniture, and CCTV cameras before fleeing the spot, the Mid-Day report further states.
