The measurement of an eight-bigha graveyard located near the Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal is set to begin shortly, with police deployed on high alert to maintain peace and order, an IANS report said.
Administrative preparations for surveying the cemetery land, situated opposite the Harihar Temple, have been completed, but the actual measurement had not started at the time of reporting, as the designated land surveyor and other officials were yet to arrive.
The exercise follows complaints alleging illegal construction of about 20 to 25 shops and houses on the cemetery land. Authorities plan to determine the actual status of the site through official measurement.
Given the sensitive nature of the issue, police forces have been placed on high alert, with entry into the cemetery restricted and heavy deployments around the premises. More than 500 personnel from eight police stations, along with Rapid Action Force and PAC units, are maintaining vigilance in the area.
Officials have assured that the measurement process will be conducted fairly and transparently, and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt law and order or spread rumours.
