Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to begin his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar on August 17.
The 16-day campaign will span more than 1,300 kilometres across 20 districts, concluding in Patna on September 1.
In a post on X, Gandhi framed the march as a fight for the core principle of democracy: “one person, one vote.” He has urged people to join the movement to “save the Constitution.”

Spoof video adds punch to ‘vote theft’ chargeAhead of the yatra, Gandhi, on Saturday, sharpened his attack on the Election Commission with a spoof video inspired by the film Laapataa Ladies. The clip depicts a man reporting the “theft” of his vote at a police station, ending with the line: “Theft of your vote is theft of your right.”
On August 7, Gandhi had alleged that elections were “choreographed” and cited “research” claiming 1,00,250 votes were stolen in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura constituency.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) responded to the Opposition leader's accusations, rejecting allegations of systemic lapses in electoral rolls.
The Commission stressed that the voter list preparation process is “transparent, multi-layered and decentralised”, led by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Draft rolls are shared with parties and the public, both physically and online. A full one-month window is provided for claims and objections. A two-tier appeal system allows grievances to be escalated to the District Magistrate and then to the State CEO, according to the poll panel.
The ECI argued that political parties had failed to flag errors within the stipulated period and are now raising objections even about past rolls.
