A six-month-old infant was allegedly left with a partially severed finger during treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru, leading to criminal charges against medical staff and the institution’s management.
The episode took place at Chinmaya Mission Hospital, where the baby had been admitted on February 19 after developing fever and cough. The child remained under care at the hospital until February 24, according to a complaint lodged by the parents.
The alleged injury occurred on the day of discharge. Police said that while the parents were at the billing counter completing formalities, a nurse was removing the IV drip and dressing from the baby’s hand. During the process, the nurse allegedly placed scissors incorrectly and ended up cutting part of the little finger on the infant’s left hand.
Hospital staff immediately moved the child to the emergency ward for treatment. Authorities confirmed that the baby sustained a serious injury to the fingertip.
An FIR has since been registered at Indiranagar Police Station against the nurse involved, the treating doctor and the hospital management under relevant sections of law.
The parents have accused the hospital of medical negligence and have called for strict action against those responsible. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
