An online storm erupted after an Instagram post surfaced claiming that HCL Technologies Chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra had met Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena to discuss youth entrepreneurship and innovation.

The image, shared from an account bearing her name, was accompanied by a caption that read: “Earlier today, I met Delhi LG Vinai Saxena to discuss innovation and how HCL Tech empowers young entrepreneurs and freshers through our committee programs.”

The photograph quickly began circulating across platforms, drawing attention because of the stature of both individuals and the political and corporate implications of such a meeting. Within hours, questions emerged about the authenticity of both the account and the image itself.

Who is Roshni Nadar Malhotra?

Roshni Nadar Malhotra is a prominent Indian business leader and philanthropist. She serves as Chairperson of HCL Technologies and CEO of HCL Corporation, the parent entity of the HCL Group. In 2020, she became the first woman to head a listed IT company in India after succeeding her father, Shiv Nadar.

Delhi LG’s response

The controversy intensified after L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena addressed the claim publicly. Posting on X (formerly Twitter) from his personal account, the Delhi LG categorically denied having any such meeting. He described the Instagram post as “fake and misleading.”

According to reports, the Lieutenant Governor’s office also asked that the post be taken down.

HCL Group's response

An HCL Group spokesperson issued a statement denying the authenticity of the account and the image. The spokesperson said: “Roshni Nadar Malhotra has no presence on Instagram. Any account purporting to represent her is fake and unauthorized”.

According to this clarification, the purported Instagram handle did not belong to Roshni Nadar Malhotra and that the content posted there could not be considered official or verified.

Account deactivated

Following the backlash, the Instagram account in question was deactivated. Its sudden disappearance added fuel to online speculation, with many users suggesting that the photo might have been generated using artificial intelligence.

Netizens point to possible AI signs

Social media users began examining the viral image closely, with several claiming they noticed features commonly associated with AI-generated visuals. These included what they described as odd-looking hands, mismatched body proportions, and uneven lighting.

One user wrote, “Looks like an AI photo,” while another quipped, “It’s AI. Roshni Nadar can call herself Roshni Nadir.”

Some users also alleged that the now-deactivated account had uploaded several similar images in recent weeks that appeared synthetic in nature. According to these claims, the pattern suggested the possible use of generative tools rather than real photographs.

No independent confirmation of AI origin

While many online observers believe the image may be AI-generated, there has been no independent forensic verification confirming that the photograph was created using artificial intelligence. What has been clearly established, however, is that both the Delhi LG’s office and HCL Group have rejected the claim of any such meeting and denied the legitimacy of the Instagram account.

As a result, the central assertion -- that Roshni Nadar Malhotra met Vinai Kumar Saxena as shown in the image -- stands disproven based on official statements.
