Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday accused the BJP of hijacking Nitish Kumar while taking a jibe at the Bihar Chief Minister, stating that he has been given a "horse as a groom" but his wedding rituals are being done by "someone else."
Yadav's statement came hours after Bihar CM Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. The development comes months after Nitish Kumar won his fifth election in 2025 and took oath as Chief Minister for the 10th time, making him Bihar's longest-serving Chief Minister.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav said, Yadav said, "Everyone knows that in the Bihar elections, the NDA had given this slogan '2025 se 30 phir se Nitish'. The BJP and NDA's constituent parties know how the elections were conducted with the help of tricks...I always said 'Nitish ji ko ghoda toh chadaya hai dulha banake lekin phera kisi aur ke sath dila raha hai'. Even at that time, we had said that the BJP 'hijacked' Nitish Kumar and they won't let him sit on the chair (of Chief Minister) for more than six months. Today, that statement has come true."
"The BJP has a history of ruining whoever it has allied with. The BJP is an anti-OBC, anti-Dalit, and anti-tribal party. They (the BJP) don't want a leader in Bihar who speaks for OBCs or Dalits; they want some 'rubber stamp Chief Minister.' People's aspirations are against this change of power," said the Bihar Leader of Opposition.
Yadav added when the Bihar CM left Mahagathbandhan in 2024, Tejashwi had said the "BJP would finish JD(U)." "When we said on January 28, 2024, that the JDU would be finished, the BJP didn't get the results they claimed, i.e., 400 seats. Hence, there was a year's delay. Otherwise, they would have finished them (the JDU) long ago...," said Yadav.
Taking the example of Maharashtra, the Rashtriya Janata Dal leader said, "...What happened in Maharashtra, the BJP made Eknath Shinde its Chief Ministerial face. They implemented the same policy here in a better way... Some people from the JDU are already bowed before BJP."
Earlier on Thursday, Nitish Kumar shared a post saying, “From the very beginning of my parliamentary journey, there has been a desire in my heart to become a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature as well as both Houses of Parliament. In keeping with this aspiration, I seek to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time.” Rajya Sabha polls will be held on March 16.
