Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani on Friday paid a visit to Gujarat’s famed Somnath Temple along with his wife Nita Ambani and son Anant Ambani, offering prayers at one of India’s most revered shrines. The visit is part of a long-standing tradition followed by the family at the start of each year.

Footage of the temple visit was shared by news agency ANI, showing the Ambanis performing rituals amid tight security arrangements. The family is known to seek blessings at the Somnath Mahadev Temple annually before beginning new personal and professional endeavours, and had undertaken a similar visit last year as well.

Somnath Temple holds deep historical and spiritual significance. A Sanskrit inscription on one of the towers in the temple complex notes that the route from the shrine’s southern direction to the South Pole remains unobstructed, a detail that continues to intrigue devotees and historians. Over the centuries, the temple has come to symbolise resilience, having been rebuilt several times after repeated destruction.

The visit comes as Mukesh Ambani remains in focus for outlining a sweeping technological vision for Reliance Industries Limited. In a recent manifesto addressed to more than 600,000 Reliance employees and their families, Ambani described Artificial Intelligence as “the most consequential technological development in human history”.

He said the world has only witnessed “the tip of the iceberg” in terms of AI’s potential, noting that its responsible deployment could help address some of humanity’s most complex challenges. “It is our responsibility to contribute to the shaping of that future, for India and the rest of the world,” Ambani said, underlining Reliance’s ambition to play a central role in India’s AI-led transformation.

Ambani also outlined Reliance’s plans to evolve into an “AI-native deep-tech company”, building on its contribution to India’s digital revolution. He highlighted a national focus behind the initiative, stating that the group’s motto is “Affordable AI for every Indian”, with the aim of transforming both the economy and everyday life. According to the roadmap, the first phase will concentrate on integrating AI across Reliance’s internal operations to significantly enhance productivity and outcomes across the organisation.
