Massive protests erupted outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi on Tuesday over atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh and the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu worker, in Mymensingh.

The situation remains tensed in the capital, as protesters managing to dismantle barricades even though security forces sought to contain them. Authorities heightened security outside the High Commission ahead of the protests led by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.

According to police officials, three layers of barricading were erected on San Martin Marg and extra police and paramilitary personnel were stationed there. Authorities made it clear to protesters that access to the Bangladesh High Commission and the Diplomatic Enclave would not be permitted.

Even so, protesters attempted to push ahead, breaching the first barricade before being stopped at the second.

Slogans such as “Yunus sarkar, hosh mein aao" were raised during the protest, as demonstrators expressed anger over the killing of Hindu man. They also burnt the effigies of Bangladesh's interim chief, Muhammad Yunus.

Hindu man's lynching in Bangladesh

27-year-old Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally killed in Mymensingh, again triggering international concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.

Das was beaten to death by a mob over alleged blasphemy, and his body was subsequently set on fire on December 18. The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation.

According to reports, at least 12 people have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder.

On Monday, Kolkata also saw protesters surrounding the High Commission of Bangladesh there, expressing intense anger over the mob lynching incident. Led by BJP leader and leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, along with other party leaders and supporters, demonstrators staged their protest in front of the High Commission, condemning the killing and demanding accountability from the Bangladeshi authorities.

"Dipu Das was burnt alive. We will not allow them to sit here (Bangladesh High Commission). They will have to lock this up. The whole Hindu community will not spare them," Adhikari said.
