A startling incident from Bihar’s Banka district has drawn widespread attention after a relationship involving a significant age gap came into the open, triggering a public confrontation and police intervention.

According to a report by NDTV India, a 60-year-old woman allegedly developed a romantic relationship with a 35-year-old man from Ara, identified as Vakil Mishra. The matter surfaced on Sunday, January 11, at the Amarpur bus stand when members of the woman’s family reportedly found the couple together.

As per reports, the woman’s husband and son reached the bus stand after spotting the pair and confronted Vakil Mishra. The situation quickly escalated, with Vakil allegedly being assaulted in full public view. The woman’s family reportedly expressed strong opposition to the relationship, leading to chaos at the crowded bus stand as bystanders gathered to witness the altercation.

A video of the incident later circulated online, showing the woman visibly distressed and clinging to the man. In the footage, she can be heard saying, “Ye mera pati hai. Maine shadi razi khushi se kiya hai (This is my husband. I got married to him willingly and happily)." The woman is seen crying while holding the man, as people around them question what had happened.

With tensions running high, local residents stepped in to stop the violence. The couple was then escorted to the Amarpur police station to ensure their safety.

According to NDTV India, the relationship reportedly began around four months ago following a “wrong number" phone call. The initial conversation eventually turned into frequent interactions, which later developed into a romantic relationship. The woman and Vakil Mishra later decided to meet in person at Bhagalpur railway station.

The woman has claimed that after meeting, the two travelled together to Ludhiana, where they got married with mutual consent and started living together as husband and wife.

“Hum dono ek dusre se pyaar karte hain aur Ludhiana mein shaadi kar chuke hain (We both love each other and have already gotten married in Ludhiana)," she told police as quoted by NDTV India.

Police officials took the couple into custody for their protection, citing the volatile situation. Authorities have said that the matter is being examined carefully, including the family dispute and any legal issues linked to the claims made by both sides.
