A tragic accident claimed the lives of three members of a family after their two wheeler plunged from a flyover in Gujarat’s Surat district, allegedly after a kite string caused the rider to lose balance. The incident took place on Wednesday on the Chandrashekhar Azad Flyover.
According to officials, Rehan was riding the motorcycle along with his wife Rehana and their seven year old daughter Aisha when the mishap occurred. The family had gone out to celebrate Makar Sankranti when a kite string reportedly became entangled around Rehan while they were travelling on the flyover.
As per Rehana’s account before her death, the string suddenly wrapped around Rehan, and while attempting to remove it with one hand, he lost control of the motorcycle. The two wheeler rammed into the flyover’s side wall, causing all three to be thrown off the structure, falling nearly 70 feet to the ground below.
Rehan and his daughter Aisha died on the spot due to the impact. Rehana initially survived after landing on top of a parked autorickshaw beneath the flyover. She sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Rehana succumbed to her injuries on Thursday, completing the tragic loss of the entire family.
Police have taken note of the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the accident, including the presence of kite strings on the flyover during the festival period.
