Karnataka Budget 2024: Rs 100 crore allocated to boost tourism at Lord Hanuman's birthplace

The State has plans to prepare a feasibility report to introduce water metro services in Gurupur and Nethravathi river of Mangaluru.

In another boost to spiritual tourism, the Karnataka government has allocated budget to boost tourism in the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.

In the 2024-2025 Karnataka State Budget, Rs 100 crore has been allocated to develop tourism in Anjanadri hill and surrounding areas of Koppal district, which hold mythological and historical importance.

The Budget document also noted that the Tourism Policy will be revised for 2024-29 to attract more tourists and investors to make full use of the tourism potential of the State. A notification has been issued about constituting Sri Renuka Yellamma Tourism Development Board to conserve and develop areas in and around Srikshetra Renuka Yellamma Temple.

The State also said that a feasibility report will be prepared to introduce water metro services in Gurupur and Nethravathi river of Mangaluru.

In order to encourage adventure tourism, the Budget document noted that cable car or rope way facility will be developed in ten major tourist spots of the State under public-private-partnership.

Water sports and adventure tourism will be developed in the backwaters of major reservoirs and beaches of coastal areas under public-private-partnership in the State.

The State has set aside Rs 15 crore to revive ancient water supply system popularly, known as ‘karez’, in Bidar and Vijayapur districts.

In order to promote eco-tourism in the State, interpretation centres will be established at Bandipur, Dandeli and Kabini by Jungle Lodges and Resorts at a cost of Rs 25 crore. Eco-tourism will be promoted in Kappatagudda of Gadag district.

Archaeological survey of India (ASI) will be requested to take up research and restoration of these archaeological monuments and remains, the Karnataka government said. Around 530 protected monuments of the State are digitally documented using 3D laser scanning. "The credit goes to our State for being first in the country for undertaking this work. This digital data will be further developed to provide an interactive and immersive digital experience."

The Budget document further said that a well-furnished hotel will be constructed in Eihole of Bagalakot district by KSTDC (The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation) and tourist infrastructure facilities will be developed in Roerich and Devikarani Estate area.
