Indian security forces activated counter-drone measures and opened fire after multiple suspected drones were spotted along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening, defence sources have stated.

According to officials, several drone-like objects believed to have crossed over from Pakistan were detected in different sectors of the border region, following which the Indian army immediately retaliated. In the Naushera-Rajouri sector, Indian Army troops employed counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) measures after drones were sighted late at night.

“A few Pakistan Army drones were observed along the Line of Control in the Naushera–Rajouri sector. Counter-drone measures were undertaken, forcing the drones to return,” defence sources noted.

Earlier in the evening, a suspected drone was seen moving from Tain towards Topa in the Mankote sector of Poonch district around 6:25 pm, officials said. About ten minutes later, another drone was spotted over Khabbar village in the Teryath area of Rajouri district. A blinking aerial object was also observed moving from Dharmsal village in Kalakote towards Bharakh, raising further alerts across the region.

Security agencies remain on high alert, with intensified surveillance along vulnerable stretches of the LoC and IB.

The drone sightings come a day after the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a joint search operation in Paloora village in Samba district. The seized consignment included a Chinese-made 9mm pistol with two magazines, a Glock 9mm pistol with one magazine, a Chinese hand grenade marked “SPL HGR 84,” and sixteen live 9mm rounds, police said.

Security officials are probing possible links between the drone activity and cross-border arms smuggling attempts, while searches and monitoring operations continue in the border areas, sources added.
