Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India’s Gen Z has embraced the BJP’s development agenda, pointing to the party’s emphatic performance in recent local body elections as evidence of growing public support. Addressing a public rally in Malda, West Bengal, he cited the BJP’s landslide victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections, saying the party had secured a record win there for the first time.
Expressing confidence ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in West Bengal, due in a few months, the Prime Minister said voters in the state would also choose the BJP. Launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress, Modi declared in Bengali, “Ei sarkar palano dorkaar (this Trinamool government needs to be changed).”
He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of corruption and obstruction, alleging that the Trinamool administration was looting public funds and blocking central assistance from reaching the people of the state. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said development in Bengal would begin only after the Trinamool is voted out and the BJP comes to power.
The Prime Minister also accused the Trinamool Congress of protecting infiltrators and warned of strict action if the BJP forms the government in the state. “Big action will be taken against infiltration once the BJP comes to power in Bengal,” he asserted.
Referring to refugees from neighbouring countries, Modi sought to reassure the Matua community and others facing persecution, stating that they had nothing to fear. He said the Citizenship Amendment Act provides protection to such communities and safeguards their interests.
