The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has urged the Indian government to take action against social media platforms and influencers that are perceived to be acting against the nation’s interests in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025. The committee expressed concerns that certain social media platforms could incite violence and disrupt national security. The Ministry of Electronics and IT, along with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has been asked to submit a report on the steps being taken to ban such platforms under the IT Act 2000 and the 2021 Digital Media Ethics Code by May 8, 2025.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives, expressing his sorrow over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

He emphasised that a military solution is no solution. “I offer my offices for a resolution. There is a need to step away from the brink,” he added.

Following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including a Nepali national, the SHO of Pahalgam police station along with five other inspectors have been reassigned in Anantnag district.

“Training is required in civil defence. NCC cadets must also be trained. MHA has passed instructions to several states to do preparations in order to stay prepared,” says defence expert and Major General (retd) PK Sehgal on Centre asking states to conduct civil defence mock drills on May 7.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Raghubar Das condemned the brutal killing of 26 tourists by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, major international airlines including Air France and Lufthansa have begun avoiding Pakistani airspace. Lufthansa stated it will steer clear of the region "until further notice" and is keeping a close watch on the situation.

According to ANI sources, the cyber breach may have exposed personal details and login credentials of defence personnel, prompting serious concerns over national cyber infrastructure. Cybersecurity agencies remain on high alert, suspecting involvement of Pakistan-linked state actors, and efforts are underway to bolster cyber defence and resilience across critical platforms.

The Supreme Court today dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Vishal Tiwari, seeking increased safety measures for tourists, especially in hilly and remote areas during the summer vacation season, in the wake of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack.

The court dismissed the PIL, calling it a "publicity stunt" and noting that the petition lacked substantial public interest.

The Bench remarked that the plea seemed more focused on seeking attention rather than addressing genuine concerns for public safety.

Notably, this marks the second instance where the apex court has declined to entertain petitions related to the Pahalgam attack, which remains one of the deadliest terrorist strikes targeting civilians in recent years.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh is currently meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, states an ANI report citing sources.

The high-level meeting comes a day after the Prime Minister held crucial discussions with the chiefs of the armed forces to assess the security situation and review the government’s response.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Pakistan this morning for a day-long visit aimed at holding high-level discussions with the country’s top leadership, ahead of his scheduled trip to New Delhi.

Araghchi is expected to meet Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

Earlier, Araghchi had expressed Iran’s willingness to mediate and help de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday night said that three more individuals have been apprehended for allegedly "defending Pakistan on Indian soil" in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, bringing the total number of arrests in the state to 42.

Taking to X, Sarma said the latest arrests were made from Barpeta, Hojai, and Chirang districts. “#Update on Crackdown against traitors for defending Pakistan on Indian soil... Total of 42 Anti Nationals put behind BARS,” he posted.

The arrests are part of a broader state-wide crackdown launched by Assam Police following the April 22 attack in Jammu & Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Security forces uncovered a terrorist hideout in the forested Suranthal area of Surankote in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, recovering five improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and two wireless sets, officials said today.

The operation, conducted jointly by the Army and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police late Sunday evening, led to the recovery of five ready-to-use IEDs weighing between 0.5 kg and 5 kg.

The explosives were safely destroyed on the spot through controlled detonation, averting potential attacks in the border district, officials confirmed.

Amid the political war of words following the Pahalgam terror attack, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has launched a sharp attack on the Opposition, accusing parties in the INDIA bloc of weakening national resolve and echoing narratives aligned with Pakistan.

BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Sunday condemned a statement made by Arshad Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, calling it "very objectionable" and questioning the rationale behind his advice amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

Responding to Madani’s reported appeal for restraint and his opposition to war, Hussain said, “Pakistan can conduct a bloodbath, and we can't even stop their water? What kind of advice is this?”

“There is anger among the Muslim community as well over the kind of statement made by Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind,” the BJP leader added.

In a separate development, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has extended its support to Himanshi Narwal, the widow of Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, one of the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, after she was subjected to online trolling over her appeal not to blame Muslims and Kashmiris for the tragedy.

Narwal had made a public statement urging against communal backlash. “We do not want people going after Muslims and Kashmiris,” she said on Thursday.

Her message of restraint was, however, met with a wave of criticism and personal attacks on social media.

Responding to the backlash, the NCW issued a strong statement condemning the trolling of Narwal.

The UN Security Council will convene closed consultations this afternoon to discuss rising tensions between India and Pakistan, following Islamabad’s formal request for an emergency meeting on the issue.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, justified the move to convene the meeting, saying his country reserves the right to call for Security Council discussions when deemed necessary.

Meanwhile, in a flurry of diplomatic engagement, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has held discussions with representatives from nearly all Security Council member states, except China and Pakistan, since the Pahalgam attack.

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Sunday said her party would fully support any action the central government takes in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed.

She noted that the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has already passed a resolution affirming this stand.

Speaking during her two-day visit to Wayanad, the AICC general secretary expressed hope that the union government would act swiftly in the wake of the attack “The Congress Party… the CWC met, and we passed a resolution. In the resolution, we have said we stand fully with whatever action the government decides to take. And we hope that they take the action soon,” she told reporters here when her reaction was sought on the matter.

Jammu and Kashmir’s top cop VK Birdi on Sunday reviewed the security in the Valley in the backdrop of Pahalgam terror attack last month.

“IGP Kashmir V K Birdi held a joint security review meeting today at PCR Kashmir, which was attended by officers from multiple security forces, including the Police, Army, Intelligence Agencies, and CAPFs,” a police spokesman said.

The IGP was briefed by the officers about the overall security scenario, focussing mainly on the existing challenges in the Valley.

“The discussions focused on intelligence gathering, threat assessments, emergency response preparedness, and inter-agency coordination,” the spokesman said.

The IGP Kashmir underlined the need to bolster synergy among all security and intelligence agencies for seamless information sharing and joint operational readiness.

Pakistan has stepped up efforts to stockpile wheat flour in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) regions near the Line of Control (LoC), as tensions with India rise and concerns grow over a potential incursion. "Following the prime minister's directives, we've initiated a robust operation to secure a two-month supply of wheat flour across the entire LoC belt," Food Minister Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim told Dawn.

Senior police officials carried out a comprehensive review of security measures along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway on Saturday, according to an official statement. Inspector General of Police (Jammu Zone) Bhim Sen Tuti, along with DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua range Shiv Kumar Sharma, inspected the highway and key installations in its vicinity, a police spokesperson said.

On Saturday, police conducted searches at multiple locations across the city as part of a crackdown on the terror network following the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. A spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Police said the operation is part of intensified efforts to dismantle the infrastructure supporting terrorism in the district. The searches target suspected associates of banned terror outfits and are linked to ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
