Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov offered assistance to his Pakistani counterpart Muhammad Ishaq Dar in easing tensions between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue, according to a statement from the Foreign Ministry.
"It was stressed that Russia is ready to act for a political settlement of the situation resulting from the act of terrorism of April 22 in the Pahalgam area of the Kashmir valley, in the event of a mutual desire on the part of Islamabad and New Delhi," the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Telegram.
The Pakistan's foreign ministry noted, "particular attention was paid to the significant rise in tension between New Delhi and Islamabad."
Discussion between Russia and Pakistan took place two days after Lavrov spoke with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, where he emphasized the need for resolving differences between the two neighboring countries.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 people.
