India has asked all its citizens currently in Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights, amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington and fears of a wider conflict in the region.
In a fresh advisory issued February 23, the Embassy of India, Tehran, said the notice was released "in view of the evolving situation in Iran", and in continuation of earlier advisories issued on January 5 and January 14.
"The Indian Embassy in Tehran has urged Indian nationals in Iran to leave the country by available means of transport, including commercial flights," the advisory said.

The mission reiterated that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin should "exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Iran and monitor local media for any developments".
The advisory applies to all Indian nationals in Iran, including students, pilgrims, businesspersons and tourists. The embassy has requested those who have not yet registered to do so immediately through the official portal: https://www.meaers.com/request/home.
It added that "in case any Indian national is unable to register due to internet disruptions in Iran, their families in India are requested to do so."
Indian nationals have also been asked to keep their travel and immigration documents, including passports and identity cards, readily available at all times and to contact the embassy for any assistance.
The embassy shared emergency mobile numbers for immediate assistance:

The latest advisory follows a February 14 notice by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which urged Indian nationals to avoid travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran “until further notice.”
"In view of the ongoing developments in Iran, Indian nationals are once again strongly advised to avoid travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice. MEA’s advisory issued on 5 January 2026 may also be referred to," the MEA had stated.
In its January 5 advisory, the MEA had advised against non-essential travel and urged Indian citizens and PIOs in Iran to exercise caution, avoid protest areas and closely monitor news updates and official embassy channels. It had also advised residents on valid visas to register with the embassy if they had not already done so.
The fresh advisory comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran. The two sides have resumed Oman-mediated talks on a potential nuclear deal, with the next round scheduled in Geneva on Thursday, February 26, as confirmed by Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi.
At the same time, Washington has expanded its military presence in the region, deploying two aircraft carriers, fighter jets and additional weaponry.
US President Donald Trump recently warned Iran to reach an agreement within days. “We're either going to get a deal, or it's going to be unfortunate for them... 10-15 days would be enough time,” Trump said.
Meanwhile, Iran has witnessed student-led protests for a second consecutive day in some universities, adding to the uncertainty.
