The wife of a 34-year-old man who died of a heart attack in Bengaluru on Tuesday recounted the ordeal in her interview with NDTV and said that humaity failed her and her husband when they were in need.
"Humanity failed to help my husband. I was covered in blood, pleading for help, but no one came," the wife told NDTV.
"He complained about chest pain, and we went to the first hospital. But the doctor was not on duty. At the second hospital, we were told he had a stroke and to go to another hospital. When we called for ambulance services, they didn't respond properly. Humanity failed, but we did our bit by donating his eye," she added.
The family has donated the eyes of the man. He was a garage mechanic, a resident of Balaji Nagar and started complaining of severe chest pain around 3:30 pm on Tuesday.
The couple then set out to seek medical help on a motorcycle, after which, they were turned away by two separate hospitals.
They then met with an accident on the road after being turned away by medical facilities. A video that surfaced later showed the wife pleading for help with folded hands, while her husband lay on the road. However, no one stopped to help.
After a while, a cab driver stopped to help and transported Venkataramanan to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.
After his death, his mother said, "I have no words. I don't know what to say. My son is gone." He was her last surviving child.
"The government should understand a health emergency. My daughter is left with two children. Who will look after them?" asked his mother-in-law, NDTV reported.
