The parents of gangster Goldy Brar were arrested on Monday in connection with a case registered at Police Station Sadar in Sri Muktsar Sahib, India Today reported, citing police sources.
According to the police, Shamsher Singh and his wife, Preetpal Kaur, residents of Adesh Nagar on Kotkapura Road in Sri Muktsar Sahib, were taken into custody in connection with FIR No. 233 dated December 3, 2024.
The case has been registered under Sections 308(4), 351(1) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint filed by Satnam Singh, a resident of village Udekaran, which falls under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sadar.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
Who is Goldy Brar?
Goldy Brar is alleged to be the key conspirator in the murder of Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead in broad daylight in Punjab’s Mansa district in 2022.
Reports say Brar coordinated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang to carry out the killing, allegedly to avenge the murder of Youth Akali leader Vicky Middukhera. He is also said to have claimed responsibility for the crime in a social media post.
A native of Punjab, Brar moved to Canada in 2017 on a student visa and is accused of running extortion and contract killing operations from there. In May 2023, Canadian police placed him 15th on their “top 25 wanted” list. He has also been named as an accused in the killing of Youth Congress leader Gurlal Singh Bhullar, also known as Pehalwan.
The Government of India has designated Brar a terrorist under the Fourth Schedule of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, taking the total number of individuals listed under the provision to 56. The designation does not automatically carry punitive sanctions, and the law provides a mechanism for seeking removal of the tag through a review process.
