FIR filed against RCB, Karnataka cricket board after 11 killed in Bengaluru stampede

Bengaluru police have registered an FIR against Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), event management company DNA, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Administrative Committee and others at Cubbon Park Police Station day after 11 people were killed in a stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The FIR stated criminal negligence in the stampede incident, ANI reported.

DNA Entertainment managed the RCB's IPL victory celebrations, while the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) organised the event, according to the state government.

Apart from the first information report (FIR), the district magistrate G Jagadeesha, who was appointed by the Karnataka government to investigate the incident, said notices will also be sent to the KSCA, the Bengaluru Metro, and the RCB franchise.

According to the police, the case was registered at Cubbon Park police station under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by using dangerous weapons or means), 190 (liability of members of an unlawful assembly for offences committed in pursuit of a common object), 132 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging their duty), 125(12) (acts endangering life or personal safety of others), 142 (unlawful assembly) and 121 (abetment of an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, PTI reported.

The stampede broke out during a public event to felicitate the RCB team following their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory.
