The Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Friday issued the aerodrome licence for the Noida International Airport in Jewar, clearing a key regulatory hurdle ahead of the start of flight operations.
The development was confirmed to PTI by Rakesh Kumar Singh, who heads both Noida International Airport Limited and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority.
According to NIAL’s nodal officer, Shailendra Bhatia, the licence has been granted under civil aviation rules, allowing domestic passenger flights and cargo operations at the airport.
Bhatia said the remaining deployment and operational arrangements are expected to be completed within the next 45 days, adding that the airport infrastructure is now ready.
Officials said the airport will be formally inaugurated by Narendra Modi at a later date.
The greenfield airport is being developed under a public-private partnership model in Jewar, located in Gautam Buddh Nagar. Once fully operational, it is expected to become one of the largest airports in India.
The first phase of the project spans about 1,300 hectares and includes one runway and a terminal building capable of handling around 1.2 crore passengers annually, officials said.
Passenger services were originally scheduled to begin in September 2024.
