The Aam Aadmi Party's return to power will also mark the comeback of Manish Sisodia as Deputy Chief Minister, party's national convener and former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday.
Sisodia, who is contesting the Jangpura constituency this time instead of the Patparganj seat, stepped down as the Deputy CM of Delhi in 2022 just weeks after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a case of money-laundering linked to the excise policy case.
He was released on bail in August last year.
"If AAP forms government again, it’s essential to ensure that the MLA from your constituency is from the AAP. If Sisodia is elected, he will once again become the Deputy CM in the new government. And if your constituency’s MLA is the Deputy CM, all officials will address your concerns over the phone. No officer will dare to ignore a call from a resident of the Deputy CM’s constituency. In this way, Manish Sisodia won’t be the only Deputy CM; every one of you here will feel like a Deputy CM," Kejriwal said addressing a rally in Jangpura on Sunday.
Sisodia is up against BJP’s Tarwinder Singh Marwah and Congress's Farhad Suri in Delhi's Jangpura Assembly constituency. Having contested an won the Patparganj seat for the AAP in his last two outings, Sisodia was tasked by the party to contest from the Jangpura seat this time.
A victory for the AAP is similarly expected to mark the return of Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Kejriwal, who was also arrested in relation to the same case as Sisodia, stepped down following his release on bail in September last year.
AAP MLA Atishi was appointed as the Chief Minister following Kejriwal's resignation. Atishi is in fray from the Kalkaji seat while Kejriwal will attempt a fourth consecutive win from the New Delhi constituency after having emerged as the winner in 2013, 2015 and 2020.
