The suspicious death of Sadhvi Prem Baisa has turned into a high-profile case, with police intensifying their investigation as new details emerge around her mobile phones and the food she consumed shortly before her death, a report by NDTV said.

A Special Investigation Team is probing the case, focusing on potential digital and forensic evidence. Police have seized three mobile phones belonging to the Sadhvi, including two iPhones and a Samsung handset, which they believe could contain crucial clues.

However, access to the devices has been delayed, as investigators have been unable to obtain the passwords. Senior officers, including the DCP, ADCP and SIT chief Chhabi Sharma, questioned Sadhvi’s father, Veeramnath, for several hours at the ACP’s office. According to police sources, he repeatedly denied having any knowledge of the phone passwords.

The investigation has taken a new turn following statements recorded from Suresh, the family servant. Police are now closely examining events from the evening of January 28.

Suresh, who usually served food to the Sadhvi in her room, told investigators that on the night in question she was suffering from a cold and dal was prepared for her.

However, instead of the servant, it was her father who took the dal to her room. Shortly after eating, Sadhvi reportedly began experiencing severe breathing difficulties and screamed that she could not breathe.

In the presence of the SIT, a forensic science laboratory team carried out a fresh search of the ashram room, examining every corner to ensure no evidence was overlooked.

Samples of ingredients used to prepare the dal and other food items were collected from the kitchen for analysis. Police Commissioner Om Prakash said the scene was re-inspected to ensure that no evidence had been lost.

Investigators are currently examining two primary possibilities. One line of inquiry is whether the death was caused by a reaction to medication or an incorrectly administered injection.

The second focuses on whether a poisonous substance was mixed into the lentils served that night. A medical board has already conducted the post-mortem examination, but officials said the exact cause of death will be determined only after the viscera report from the forensic laboratory is received.
