As many as 8,635 new cases of novel coronavirus were reported, with India’s total COVID-19 cases now above 1.07 crore, as per health ministry’s February 2, 2021 update. New cases lowest in 8 months, since June 2, 2020.
India reported 94 new deaths (lowest since May 12, 2020) and 13,423 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the latest release show. Active cases drop to 1,63,353 with a fall of 4,882 cases on February 2.
As many as 39,50,156 beneficiaries have been vaccinated across India according to February 2, update.
Kerala reported the most (3,459) new cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra (1,948), Tamil Nadu (502), Karnataka (388) and Chhattisgarh (322). These five states account for 77 percent of all the new cases reported in India.

Maharashtra reported the most (27) new deaths, followed by Kerala (17), Tamil Nadu (7), West Bengal (6) and Chhattisgarh (5). These five states account for 66 percent of all the new deaths reported across the country.
About 17 states and union territories--Andaman and Nicobar, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli/Daman and Diu, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Rajasthan and Tripura did not report any deaths today.
India’s recovery rate is now 97 percent. Dadra Nagar Haveli/Daman & Diu record the highest (99.8 percent) recovery rate. In terms of cases, Kerala recorded 5,215 new recoveries, the most, followed by Maharashtra (3,289), Chhattisgarh (520), Tamil Nadu (517) and Karnataka (470).

The total number of COVID-19 cases in India is now at 1,07,66,245 with 1,04,48,406 recoveries and 1,54,486 deaths as per February 2, update. The mortality rate in the country stands at 1.4 percent with Punjab reporting the highest (3.2 percent). Less than 7 lakh daily tests were reported on February 1 with more than 19.77 crore tests carried out till date.

Despite the high number of cases and deaths reported by India, the country fares better when compared with other nations in terms of per million population.
