Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who emerged as one of the prominent faces of the Indian armed forces during media briefings on Operation Sindoor, will be conferred with the Vishisht Seva Medal on the occasion of the 77th Republic Day.
Colonel Qureshi represented the armed forces at a series of official press briefings held on May 8, 9 and 10, alongside Wing Commander Vyomika Singh. The briefings were led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and provided key updates on the military operation, drawing nationwide attention for their clarity and composure during a sensitive period.
The Vishisht Seva Medal is awarded for distinguished service of an exceptional order and recognises sustained commitment and professionalism in the armed forces. Colonel Qureshi’s role during Operation Sindoor highlighted the growing presence of women officers in frontline leadership and strategic communication roles within the military.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, who also participated in the briefings, worked closely with senior officials to convey operational developments to the public, reinforcing the armed forces’ emphasis on transparency and coordinated communication.
