The Central government on January 1 poured cold water over new year spirits after it announced an increase of Rs 111 in the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders effective from today.
The move is likely to result in the rise of operating costs for hotels, restaurants and small businesses.
The rate-hike will take the cost of 19-kg LPG cylinders in Delhi to Rs 1,691.5 from Rs 1,580.5, while the prices in Kolkata will rise from Rs 1,684 to Rs 1,795. In Mumbai, the cylinders will cost Rs 1,642.50, up from Rs 1,531.
However, in a relief for domestic consumers, there was no change in the price if 14-kg LPG cylinders. The rate of domestic cooking gas cylinders remained unchanged between Rs 850 and Rs 960 across the country.
