From sending fake job offers to OTP (One-Time Password) fraud, scamster are coming up with numerous ways to fool people and dupe them of lakhs. In one of the latest tricks, a fraudster impersonated CJI DY Chandrachud to ask money for cab.
An X (formerly Twitter) user received a message on August 25 from a person who pretended to be the Chief Justice of India. As per a screenshot which went viral online, the scammer posing as CJI Chandrachud wrote that he has an important meeting of the collegium but is stuck in CP and needs Rs 500.
"Hello, I am CJI and we have urgent meeting of the collegium and I am stuck at Cannaught Place can you send me 500rs for cab?," the fraudster wrote.
The scammer also promised to return the money. "I will return the money once I reach the court," the message further read. To make the message appear authentic, the scammer signed it off with 'sent from iPad'.
Taking note of the same and on the Chief Justice's instructions, the Supreme Court on August 27 registered a complaint with the cyber crime cell.

Social media users were quick to react to the post shared by the person who received the message from the scammer.
"Money delayed is money denied!," a user wrote.
"The iPad bit is reassuring," another commented.
Adding humor to his reply, an X user wrote, "Only 500 ??? Market is down it seems"
Earlier in 2022, a man posed as an acting Chief Justice and duped the Public Relations officer (PRO) of Karnataka High Court. The fraudster made away with Rs 90,000 transferred to his account through Amazon gift hampers.
