The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has begun a crucial meeting today, with top government sources indicating that several significant bills could be approved, potentially reshaping national policies.
Sources further added that the 2027 Census proposal is a key agenda item under discussion. Approval for conducting the nationwide census in 2027 is expected, officials said. Other key policies that are being discussed in the meeting include:
•Nuclear Energy Bill (Shanti Bill 2025): The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India Bill may be cleared to enhance India's nuclear energy capabilities.
•Insurance Sector Bill (Sabka Bima, Sabki Raksha Bill 2025): Amendments to existing insurance laws under this new bill aim to expand coverage and protection for citizens.
•Securities Market Code Bill 2025: This legislation will replace three existing securities market laws to simplify and strengthen the regulatory framework.
•Rural Employment Bill (Pujya Bapu Rural Employment Guarantee Bill 2025): The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 will be updated and renamed to boost rural employment initiatives.
•Education Bill (Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhisthan Bill 2025): Proposed reforms to modernize education policy under this bill may also receive approval.
Officials highlighted that if these bills are cleared, it would constitute the largest legislative package of Prime Minister Modi's third term.
