A bomb scare was reported at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (NSCBI) on Saturday morning, after a handwritten note claiming that a bomb had been placed on a Shillong-bound IndiGo flight was discovered inside the aircraft.
The note was found in the lavatory of IndiGo flight 6E7304 (also reported as 6E3074), which was scheduled to depart for Shillong at 9:15 am. According to airport officials, the message was detected by a crew member before the completion of boarding procedures.
Following the discovery, passengers were immediately deboarded and the aircraft was shifted to the isolation bay as a precautionary measure. Authorities initiated a full security sweep of the plane in line with standard operating procedures.
The Airport Director of the NSCBI said, "The aircraft has been moved to the isolation bay. During boarding, crew members found a piece of paper inside the aircraft's toilet compartment, which stated that there was a bomb inside the aircraft. Immediately afterwards, passengers were removed from the aircraft. Checking process is going on."
As per an official spokesperson, the aircraft is being thoroughly searched, and all necessary safety protocols have been activated. Security agencies are conducting checks, and further details are awaited.
In a similar incident last month, an IndiGo flight operating from Delhi to Pune received a bomb threat after a handwritten note was found in the aircraft lavatory upon landing. The plane was moved to an isolation bay and examined by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad. No suspicious object was found, and the aircraft was later cleared for normal operations.
Saturday’s incident is currently under investigation. Officials have not reported any recovery of explosive material so far.
