Bhartiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait called for nationwide farmers and labourers’ strike ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh’ on February 16.
“The Gramin Bandh will be observed from 6 am to 4 pm on 16.02.2024. The villages will remain closed for all agricultural activities/MNREGS Works/Rural works. No farmer, agricultural worker and rural worker will join work,” said Tikait.
Tikait hopes that a new line of thinking will emerge out of this and will show how many people are participating in the farmers’ protest.
The guidelines shared regarding this strike stated that the supply and purchase of vegetables and other crops will remain suspended. All the village shops, grain markets, vegetable markets, government and non-government offices, rural industrial and service sector institutions and enterprises in the private sector are requested to remain closed. The Shops and establishments of towns remain closed during the strike hours.
“We have asked shopkeepers to join in the movement as well, some have agreed to follow the Bandh after lunch time,” said Rakesh Tikait.
Normal public and private transport are advised to remain off the roads as farmers will join Massive Chakka Jam/Rastha Roko/Road Picketing from 12 pm to 4 pm.
Emergency services related to ambulance, death, marriage, medical shops, newspaper supply, board exams and passengers to the airport will remain available throughout the day.
