In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old girl died by suicide after jumping from the 20th floor of an apartment in Kadugodi, police said on Wednesday. The girl was scolded by her mother for using her mobile phone instead of studying for exams. Upset by this, she allegedly took this extreme step.

The victim has been identified as Avantika Chourasia, a class 10 student. According to the police, the family of the girl hailed from Madhya Pradesh.

According to reports, the girl’s mother asked her not to spend time on her mobile phone and insisted that she should focus on reading instead. Police suspect that enraged by this, the girl had jumped off from the 20th floor of the apartment and committed suicide.

The official statements of the parents are yet to be recorded and more details regarding the case are yet to emerge. The preliminary probe revealed that the girl had taken the extreme step the moment after her mother rebuked her for not using her mobile during the examination time.

"Prima facie it was found that the deceased was distressed over this and even as her mother was at home, she went outside of her house on the 20th floor towards the balcony and jumped down, dying instantly,” a police investigator told Deccan Herald.
