‘Babur toilet’ in Madhya Pradesh: BJP leader warns of Babri-like demolition if mosque is built in Murshidabad

Protests erupted across the country after suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir laid the foundation for a Babri Masjid-style mosque in West Bengal’s Murshidabad. In Ashoknagar, Madhya Pradesh, BJP Kisan Morcha district president Bablu Yadav responded by naming a community toilet after Babur, with posters bearing the title “Babur Toilet” now circulating widely online.

Yadav said the move was intended as a protest against Kabir’s decision and described Babur as an invader, the hindi daily Hindustan reported. He added that more toilets could be renamed in the same manner and warned that the proposed mosque would not be tolerated, invoking the 1992 demolition of the Babri structure.

He warned that just as the Babri structure was demolished in 1992, the mosque will also be demolished if it is built there.

Suspended TMC MLA lays foundation stone for 'Babri Masjid-style' mosque

Last week, suspended TMC MLA Kabir laid the foundation stone for the 'Babri Masjid-style' mosque at Beldanga in Murshidabad amid tight security, triggering sharp political reactions and deepening tensions within the ruling party.

Kabir claimed that the foundation ceremony drew an "unexpected public response", which, he said, prompted him to reconsider his decision to resign.

"I got massive support from people after the foundation stone was laid. That support has strengthened my resolve," he said.

The TMC had suspended Kabir for repeatedly defying party discipline and making provocative statements linked to the mosque project.

“I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Anyone can build a temple, anyone can build a church; I will build a mosque. It is being said that we cannot build the Babri Masjid. It is not written anywhere,” he said.

On Wednesday, Kabir announced that he will unveil a new political party on December 22. Kabir declared that he intends to directly challenge West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's party in the upcoming polls.

Speaking to ANI, Kabir said, "I will announce a new party on December 22. I will field candidates against Mamata Banerjee's party. Whoever becomes the CM, they will have to take Humayun Kabir's support for it to happen.”
