Actor Vijay’s TVK allotted ‘whistle’ symbol ahead of 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls

While the ‘whistle’ symbol has been allotted to TVK, ‘battery torch’ is the party symbol of MNM

The Election Commission on Thursday allotted election symbols to actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and actor Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly polls.

While the ‘whistle’ symbol has been allotted to TVK, ‘battery torch’ is the party symbol of MNM.

The development came just two days after TVK convened its first election campaign committee meeting in Chennai on Tuesday to outline a manifesto anchored in social justice and transparency.

"It is hereby informed that the common symbol allotted to the respective party(s) is only for the forthcoming General Elections to the Legislative Assemblies or the Lok Sabha... Further use of Common symbol by the respective party(s) is not allowed after the completion of the said election," the poll body said.

On January 16, Vijay constituted a 12-member committee to coordinate election campaign activities of the party at the district and constituency levels for the assembly polls in Tamil Nadu.

The whistle symbol was the 'priority' one as preferred by Vijay from a choice of 10 symbols proposed, party leader CTR Nirmal Kumar said.

"The overall expectations and the desire of the people of Tamil Nadu is that our leader should become Chief Minister. As a first step, this symbol has been given," he said, as per PTI.

A senior party leader on Wednesday said that the TVK is preparing the election campaign tour plan of its chief Vijay in view of forth coming assembly elections. The details of the places would be announced later after getting the approval from the authorities, the party's chief coordinator K A Sengottaiyan said.

"We are preparing the tour plan. We need to follow some rules and regulations. We are yet to decide the locations. After identifying the location, we should get permission from the police department. So, we are preparing all those things. All the campaign details (of Vijay) will be announced," he stated.
