More than nine years since 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar and domestic help Hemraj were found dead in a Noida apartment, the girl's parents Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were acquitted of the double murder.

The Allahabad High Court said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the Talwars were guilty of the killings.

The development comes four years after the CBI convicted the Talwars of the two murders and sentenced them  to life imprisonment at Ghaziabad's Dasna Jail.

Thursday's verdict means that the identity of Aarushi and Hemraj's killer remains a mystery.
