93% new MPs are crorepatis: 10 richest members in 18th Lok Sabha

As the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha election is scheduled to begin on June 24, here's a look at the top 10 richest members of the lower house

About 504 or 93 per cent of the 543 MPs elected to the 18th Lok Sabha are crorepatis, which is a significant increase compared to the previous two general elections. In 2019, 88 per cent of the elected MPs were crorepatis while in 2014, they were 82 per cent, as per Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR).

As the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha election is scheduled to begin on June 24, two weeks after Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister for a third time, here's a look at the top 10 richest members of the lower house-

1. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Telugu Desam Party

TDP's Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani is the richest MP elected in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, with total assets worth more than Rs 5,705 crore. Pemmasani contested from Andhra Pradesh's Guntur constituency and defeated his closest rival, YSRCP's Kilari Venkata Rosalah, by over 3.44 lakh votes. He was sworn in as minister of state in the ministry of rural development and ministry of communications.

2. Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Bharatiya Janata Party

BJP's Konda Vishweshwar Reddy is the second richest MP with total declared assets of over Rs 4,568 crore. Reddy contested from Telangana's Chevella constituency and defeated Congress' Gaddam Ranjith Reddy by about 1.72 lakh votes.

3. Naveen Jindal, BJP

BJP leader Naveen Jindal has total assets worth over Rs 1,241 crore, making him the third richest MP in 18th Lok Sabha. He hails from one of the most affluent families in the country and serves as the chairman of Jindal Steel and Power. Jindal fought from Haryana's Kurukshetra constituency and defeated Aam Aadmi Party's Sushil Gupta by about 29,021 votes.

4. Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy, TDP

With total assets over Rs 716 crore, Vemireddy is the fourth richest MP in the 18th Lok Sabha. The founder of VPR Mining Infra Private Limited contested from Andhra Pradesh's Nellore constituency and defeated his nearest rival, YSRCP's Venumbaka Vijayasai Reddy, by a margin of over 2.45 lakh votes.

5. CM Ramesh, BJP

In his election affidavit, CM Ramesh declared total assets worth over Rs 497 crore. He contested 2024 Lok Sabha polls from Andhra Pradesh's Anakapalle constituency and defeated YSRCP's Budi Mutyala Naidu by over 2.96 lakh votes.

6. Jyotiraditya Scindia, BJP

BJP's Jyotiraditya Scindia has declared total assets worth over Rs 424 crore. Contesting from Madhya Pradesh's Guna, Scindia secured a landslide victory with a margin of over 5.40 lakh votes. Scindia has now been appointed as the minister of communications and the minister of development of the North Eastern region.

7. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, Conngress

Congress' Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj has declared total assets of over Rs 342 crore. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj contested from Maharashtra's Kolhapur constituency and defeated Shiv Sena's Sanjay Mandlik by a margin of about 1.54 lakh votes.

8. Sribharat Mathukumilli, TDP

Sribharat Mathukumilli of the TDP has total assets worth over Rs 298 crore. Contesting from Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam constituency, he emerged victorious after defeating his nearest rival YSRCP's Jhansi Lakshmi Botcha by a margin of over 5 lakh votes.

9. Hema Malini, BJP

Veteran actor and politician Hema Malini, who contested from the Mathura seat in Uttar Pradesh, has total assets worth over Rs 278 crore. In the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, Hema Malini secured a hat-trick from the seat winning by a margin of over 2.93 lakh votes against Congress' Mukesh Dhangar.

10. Prabha Mallikarjun, Congress

Mallikarjun possesses total assets worth over Rs 241 crore. She contested from Karnataka's Davanagere constituency and defeated her closest rival, BJP's Gayithri Siddeshwara, by over 26,000 votes.
