At least nine people have been hospitalised in Indore after they fell ill consuming contaminated water. This comes weeks after over 20 people died due to water-borne diseases in Madhya Pradesh.
According to officials, cases of water-borne diseases were reported from the Patti Bazaar and Chander Marg areas of Indore's Mhow tehsil on Thursday night.
Indore Collector Shivam Verma, who arrived in Mhow late on Thursday night, visited patients undergoing treatment at a hospital and spoke to residents of the affected areas. Mhow MLA Usha Thakur also visited the hospital to meet the affected persons.
"Nine patients have been hospitalised, while a few others are recuperating at home," an official told news agency PTI.
Verma directed the health department to ensure proper and effective treatment for all patients. He has also instructed the Mhow Cantonment Board to check the water quality and maintain cleanliness in the area.
"The affected areas will be surveyed, and residents suffering from any symptoms will be provided with appropriate treatment. Critical patients will be admitted to the hospital. No patient is in critical condition at present, some of them will be discharged during the day," the Indore collector said.
Last month, several people died due to water-borne diseases in various parts of Indore. While residents of Bhagirathpura have claimed that the outbreak has claimed 25 lives so far, the Madhya Pradesh government officially admitted that at least 15 people have died due to a diarrhoea outbreak linked to contaminated drinking water in Indore.
