A 28-year-old Indian national died under unexplained circumstances during a music festival in Phuket, Thailand, in the early hours of January 18, officials said.
According to a report by the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred at the Electric Daisy Carnival, a three-day international music festival being held in Cherng Talay. The death left both domestic and foreign festival goers shaken.
Police said the man, identified as Jain Saksham, did not have any visible injuries or marks indicating physical assault. Initial findings suggest that Saksham attended the festival before moving towards a nearby parking area.
Investigators said he allegedly climbed onto a parked pickup truck and began behaving in a disoriented and agitated manner. He is also suspected to have damaged multiple parked vehicles along Bandon to Choeng Thale Road, drawing the attention of people in the area.
Emergency medical teams were called after Saksham was found in an erratic state and he was rushed to Thalang Hospital. Doctors said he was suffering from shock and lost consciousness shortly after being admitted. Despite treatment, he died soon after. The exact cause of death has not yet been established.
Police reiterated that there were no indications of violence or external trauma on the body. Given the unclear sequence of events, authorities have ordered a postmortem examination at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the cause of death. Officials are exploring several possibilities, including substance use or an underlying medical condition.
According to Asean Now, the Indian embassy is coordinating with Thai authorities, and Saksham’s family is expected to be informed. After the autopsy is completed, the family will be able to take custody of the body and perform the last rites.
