Indian team's mainstays Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul have been ruled out of the second test against England due to injuries, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on January 29.
While Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on January 28, Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain.
Both of them "have been ruled out of the second IDFC First Bank Test against England in Vizag, starting February 2," a media release stated, adding that the "BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo".
Their exit comes a day after India lost the first Test match played against England in Hyderabad.
The Selection Committee has added Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan and left-arm spinner Sourabh Kumar and all-rounder Washington Sundar in to the squad for the second Test.
India trail the five-match series 0-1 after losing the opener by 28 runs. The game was tilted in India's favour in the first half, when it had bowled out England for 246 and put a mammoth 436 in its first inning. In the second half, however, Ollie Pope's epic 196-run knock took the English side to 420 runs.
India, while chasing a target of 231, was bowled out for 202 runs. Debutant spinner Tom Hartley wrecked the Indian batting line-up, as he picked up seven wickets while conceding 62 runs.
Here is India's updated squad for the 2nd Test vs England:
Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, KS Bharat (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Avesh Khan, Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Washington Sundar, and Sourabh Kumar.
