India v South Africa: Suryakumar Yadav to lead T20I side, KL Rahul to lead in ODIs

Suryakumar Yadav was appointed India captain for the three-match T20I series against South Africa while KL Rahul will lead the Men in Blue in the ODI series.

Batter Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the three-match T20I series against South Africa, starting on December 10. A BCCI release on Thursday confirmed the news and added that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had requested for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour.

Wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul was appointed the captain for the ODI series that will follow the T20Is, starting on December 17.  Hardik Pandya, who is still recovering from the ankle injury that he sustained in the 2023 ODI World Cup match against Bangladesh last month, was not included in any of the squads.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was not part of the squad that finished runners-up at the ODI World Cup, earned a recall to the 50-over setup.

Sharma and Kohli were named in the Test squad that also saw the return of Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah. In addition to the senior squad, an India A squad will also feature in a shadow tour of South Africa and play three four-day matches. The team will be led by wicket-keeper KS Bharat.

Additionally, India will also play a three-day inter-squad match, the squad for which has a combination of both senior men's team players and India A players.
