Morning routines are more than just waking up, brushing teeth and beginning preparation for school. The impact they have on a child’s mental faculty and his or her emotional stability also throughout the day is immeasurable. By starting the morning with a routine, your children will be more engaged, empowered and excited to learn.

“Intelligence isn't something your child is born with,” Navin Paschil, pediatrician and child development specialist  at Dr Bhargava's Clinic And Child Care Centre, Noida, tells Moneycontrol. “They can actually develop it through daily habits that help exercise their brains," he adds.

Wake up at a consistent time

Having a set wake time helps regulate the brain’s internal clock and enhance mental clarity. It cuts down on morning stress and supports children in beginning the day peacefully. In the long-term, this process enhances memory, attention, and emotional stability.

Drink water first thing in the morning

Encourage your child to drink water as soon as they wake up as it helps them to think faster and concentrate better. Morning energy and mental performance can dramatically increase after just a single glass of water.

A balanced brain-fueling breakfast

Healthy options such as eggs, oats, nuts, fruit and yoghurt offer sustained brainpower. They help with memory, focus and emotional support during the day at school. Ignoring the breakfast can cause low focus and moods.

Positive affirmations

Reciting mantras can help provide a self-esteem and growth mindset boost. It helps kids to see problems as opportunities, rather than something that feels like a problem. This emotional intelligence is closely correlated with learning and decision making.

Reading for 10 minutes

A little bit of reading each morning promotes imagination as well as language skills. It increases vocabulary, comprehension and attention span over time. The habit of humor also encourages independent critical thinking and curiosity.

Puzzles or brain games

Puzzles, mental teasers, or memory cards for example help build logical and analytical thinking. They foster problem-solving and guide the creation of sturdier connections in the brain. Insisting on a solid work ethic makes them more flexible and sharper in the academics.

Talking through the schedule for the day is a way of teaching organization and self-discipline. It encourages children to be accountable for their actions and habits. The focus greatly improves and it gives a clear sense of purpose to look ahead.
