Vodafone Idea chief executive officer Akshaya Moondra has said the telco is preparing for a phased rollout of 5G and launching new, tailored “first-of-their-kind tariff plans” for customers.
The telecommunication company is expected to launch its 5G services in the top 75 cities. It is looking at 17 “priority circle cities” and even targeting industrial hubs, as they are heavy data zones.
“The future is here! We are preparing for the phased rollout of 5G, bringing you blazing-fast speeds and unparalleled experiences,” Moondra said in an email to Vi customers.
The debt-ridden company is reportedly planning to introduce 5G with competitively priced plans that could be up to 15 percent cheaper at entry levels to drive customer growth.
Moondra said Vi is partnering with global leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia and Samsung to drive a “transformative” three-year investment plan.
“By March 2025, thousands of new sites will enhance your connectivity, elevating your network experience to extraordinary heights,” he said.
Moondra said the telco added over 46,000 new sites in 2024, enhancing its network.
“We enhanced the capacity at over 58,000 sites so that you can do more of what you love doing online, faster. A lot more of our network is now on our Indoor Coverage Plus technology, which significantly boosts indoor coverage and quality whether you are at home, at the office, or at a mall,” the email said.
“As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to you on behalf of everyone at Vi. Your trust and unwavering support inspire us to deliver the very best every day.”. “Thank you for making Vi a part of your journey. Your trust and loyalty drive us to dream big and deliver more. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming year.”
The CEO claimed that Vi built “India's Best 4G Network”, as recognised by OpenSignal, a network testing service.
“Vi has excelled across all performance metrics of 4G download and upload speeds, 4G video and gaming experiences, and 4G voice app calling performance,” he added.
Moondra also mentioned Vi's recent launch of SPAM detection solutions to help safeguard customers.
Vodafone Idea on January 7 announced a strategic partnership with premium streaming service, Lionsgate Play to further expand Vi’s OTT portfolio.
At 12.58 pm, the Vodafone Idea stock was trading at Rs 8 on the National Stock Exchange, up 1.52 percent from the previous close.
