Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said developed economies are increasingly seeking trade agreements with India, citing the country’s digital transformation, macroeconomic stability and manufacturing push as key drivers of global interest.
Speaking at the Network18 Rising Bharat Summit 2026, Modi said leaders of other nations frequently refer to India’s Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) architecture and digital public infrastructure during bilateral meetings.
“When I meet heads of government, they are eager to listen to India’s digital capabilities,” he said, adding that the country’s potential has prompted developed nations to pursue trade deals with India.
Modi said the government had strengthened the banking system, curbed double-digit inflation and positioned India as a major growth engine for the global economy. “We have made India the world’s growth engine,” he said.
Highlighting structural changes over the past decade, the Prime Minister pointed to the expansion of electricity access and India’s rise in solar energy capacity. “The world is surprised that a country where three crore families did not have electricity is now among the top in solar power,” he said.
He also underscored a renewed focus on manufacturing and quality standards, saying India is working to regain its historical economic strength. Referring to earlier concerns over policy paralysis and India’s inclusion among the so-called “fragile five” economies, Modi said the current global interest in trade partnerships reflects a shift in perception.
“If the country was dealing with policy paralysis and was in fragile five, who would have done trade deals with us?” he said.
Modi added that ongoing trade discussions demonstrate the scale of India’s transformation, noting that developed countries are now approaching India for economic partnerships.
