RVNL shares jump 5% again today on Budget sops hopes, other railway stocks give up morning gains

RVNL stock has seen a strong resurgence in the past few days after it secured a Rs 3,622 crore contract from BSNL, recovering from the 7-month-low level it had hit on January 13.

RVNL share price jumped as much as 5 percent on Friday, extending the previous day's 11 percent gain, on the expectation of a favourable Union Budget allocation, even as other railway stocks pared morning gains. Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd stock was trading at around Rs 430 on January 17.

Shares of railway stocks have seen heightened activity in the last few days amid expectations of significant capex increment announcements in the upcoming Union Budget 2025-2026, scheduled to be tabled on February 1.

Most railway stocks saw a strong surge earlier on January 16, while a few rose and others fell today on January 17.

The railway ministry had received a record allocation of nearly Rs 2.62 lakh crore for capital expenditure in the previous Union Budget 2024-25 in July.

According to a Moneycontrol report, analysts predict a 15–20 percent increase in capex budget, potentially raising the allocation to Rs 3 lakh crore in the upcoming Union Budget 2025-2026. RVNL stock has seen a strong resurgence in the past few days after it secured a Rs 3,622-crore contract from BSNL, recovering from the seven-month-low level it had hit on January 13.

Titagarh Rail Systems stock also gained on January 17, rising 2.49 percent to trade at around Rs 1,078. However, the stock is down over 33 percent in the past six months.

Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) shares were trading 1.22 percent higher at Rs 145 in late morning. The stock has risen over 7 percent in the past five days, but has fallen around 30 percent in the last six months. IRCTC shares were trading with modest gains of 0.7 percent at Rs 768.45.

Texmaco Rail, RailTel Corporation of India and CONCOR shares were trading with either minor gains or losses.

Other railway stocks however saw a sharp decline on January 17. Shares of Jupiter Wagons dropped around 2.15 percent to trade at Rs 484, while IRCON saw a 1 percent fall in share price. IRCON shares were trading at around Rs 218.
